Folklore Village creates opportunities for individuals and
communities to celebrate, experience and support ethnic and
traditional folklife.
Folklore Village offers an ongoing program of cultural, educational
and participatory folklife activities in rural Southwest Wisconsin,
serving regional communities and the Upper Midwest.
That is a mission statement. Directions are:

Wisconsin, 35 minutes west of Madison and six miles east of Dodgeville. Take Highway
18/151 to County Highway BB, then turn south onto BB. The Folklore Village site is 1/2
mile south of the intersection of 18/151 and County BB. The address is 3210 County BB. The
Farwell Hall drive is on the west side of BB. |
We're talking c. 145 miles from Chicago ... as though any of that
means something ... .
What is important ... what means something ... is that we discovered
Folklore Village one weekend. Or it discovered us. My wife was looking
for someplace to go for a weekend. We had recently rejoined American Youth Hostels.
FLV has a hostel. It also has dancing. It has a spirit also. An
energy ... .
We went.
And we are going still
